Domestic Violence Center
Wednesday, December 24th, 2008In thinking about the women and children in shelter at the Domestic Violence Center, I will always remember the woman who came back from her days’ work singing jingle bells – jingling something in her hand – with a big smile. When others asked her why she was smiling so wide and seeming so happy, she said, “See what I am jingling? Keys – new keys to a new apartment. I am moving out of shelter. Thank you to all the staff here at DVC for giving me the best gift during the holidays – my safety, a new beginning and a new home for me and my children.” Knowing the pain and trauma women and children experience in a domestic violence situation, I decided to use my $20 to purchase cards of HOPE to nourish the soul - and food to nourish the body.
