Suicide Prevention

I decided to use my $20 to help with a cause that I really feel strongly about, and I hope it will make a difference in someone’s life. In 2003 my friend Ricky committed suicide. He was a senior in high school and was going to graduate in less than 3 months. I always believed if he knew whom to turn to for help it would have made a difference.
MHS is a provider of mental health and support services in Cleveland. Their goal is to provide the most vulnerable populations in Cleveland with mental health services. They offer many services to the community. They offer assistance for the homeless and child trauma services. The service that caught my attention however, was the mobile crisis team. The Mobile Crisis Team (MCT) visits people who feel they may do something that might endanger their safety. MCT crisis workers arrange admissions to impatient psychiatric services and crisis stabilization programs for the distressed person. MCT psychiatrists follow up to ensure the person is receiving proper mental health services. When the crisis is resolved, MCT crisis workers connect the person with people and organizations that can provide ongoing services to minimize the chances of another crisis.
It was great to learn about MHS and the Mobile Crisis Team. The people I talked to are truly dedicated to helping people, and their efforts have truly made a difference. So, suicide prevention is my change.
